Questions

Short answers to the things people ask. If yours is not here, email hello@lostangles.co.uk and one person will answer it.

Is the coffee really roasted after I order?

Yes. The roaster takes one kilo at a time and nothing is roasted into stock. Roast days are Tuesday and Thursday. Your order goes on at the next one and is in the post the day after, with the roast date and batch number on the bag.

How fresh will it be when it arrives?

A few days from the roast. That is about right: coffee needs a few days to rest after roasting before it brews well, and it is at its best for a few weeks after that. Keep it sealed and away from air, or freeze it.

Whole bean or ground?

Either. Whole bean if you have a grinder, which is better. If not, choose how you brew when you order and I grind it for that the day it is roasted, and mark the grind on the bag by hand.

What is the batch number for?

It is the roast date and the roast of the day, so every bag can be traced to one run on one day. Every batch is also read on a colour meter before it leaves, and the reading is printed on the bag, so the next bag of the same coffee should match this one. If it does not, that number is how you tell me.

Why is the price you paid for the green coffee on the bag?

Because I would rather you knew. Every bag prints the price per kilo I paid the importer for the raw coffee. The rest of the price is roasting, the bag, the card, postage and me.

How is the decaf made?

The Risaralda is decaffeinated in Colombia with ethyl acetate made from sugar cane, which takes out about 97 per cent of the caffeine and leaves the sweetness alone. It is bought in the same quantity as the other coffees and priced the same way.

Where do you deliver?

The United Kingdom and Ireland. UK standard delivery is £4.99, free on orders of £20 and over; Ireland is £8.50 tracked. Collection is free: choose it at checkout and I will message you to arrange where and when. Details are on the shipping page.

Do you sell to cafés and offices?

Yes, by the kilo, whole bean or ground for your machine, from six kilos an order. The prices are published on the wholesale page, along with the terms.

What is The First Hundred?

A hundred places for anyone who wants all of it: a bag each of Angelina Estate and Villamaría now, the next coffee to arrive as the third, sent before it goes on the site, and ten per cent off everything for a year. It is on the First Hundred page while places remain.

Where are you?

A shipping container at Watergate, Broxhill Road, Havering-atte-Bower, on the edge of London. One person, one roaster.
